OverviewAt the critical time of climate change and ecological crisis, forest carbon appears as one of the solutions for the future. While various scientific reports have shown that carbon dioxide emissions are responsible for changes in our climate, the forests absorb CO2 like carbon sinks by sequestering millions of tons each year. A balanced and sustainable development calls for the preservation, the management and the valorization of forests worldwide, especially in Africa. Africa is the second green lungs of the Earth, after the Amazonia forest. For this continent, the needed implementation of CO2 quotas and carbon credits would create the financial support to fight climate change, deforestation, poverty, and contribute to the economic growth. The carbon potential of Africa could modify the current established macro-economic model. In the background of the climate summits (Rio, Kyoto, Copenhagen, Cancun...), the global North-South relationships could be reshuffled. The time may have come for Africa to start playing its part in the world economy.
