Overview

Ah, the serendipity of accidents. Sir Alexander Fleming and penicillin. Archimedes in his bath. Plastic. Xrays. Cornflakes. Your little brother's birth. Cue Sue Wighton: accidental writer. Sue knows a bit about accidents and serendipity. She knows a bit about writing. And she asks tricky questions. Do prawns have legs? What is the meaning of life and what does it have to do with towels? Why are words so endlessly fascinating? Are you - like Sue - baffled, bemused and bamboozled by the happy and not so happy accidents of modern life, technology, change, mobile phone plans, strange exercise programs, air travel? Would you like to understand a little more about the craft of writing and how to get better at it? If you answered 'yes', to both those questions, then Accidental Writer is the book for you. When life gets you down, Sue's wry observations will pick you up, shake you all about and make you laugh. And isn't that what we all need right now?

Sue Wighton is a Brisbane-based freelance writer and singer. She has written video scripts and performed voice overs in a wide-ranging communications career that began in the classroom as a teacher. Sue retired in 2018 from her last gig, her workshop business - Write Well - teaching public servants to write in plain English. What a challenge! Sue is a well-known singer/songwriter around the Brisbane folk scene. She's passionate about words and music, and the power of songs to tell important stories. Sue loves swimming, riding her red electric bike and sketching. She has been known to bake.
