Author Information

"The youngest of two children, and only son of Raymond Robert Abney Sr. and Clothilde Anysia Hingle, Raymond Robert ""Bobby"" Abney Jr. was born in Touro Infirmary, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on 16 January 1958 in the 9th generation of Dr. Abraham Abney of Virginia. Mr. Abney began researching the Abney Family in the 1980's and has come to be known as the expert in Abney Genealogy. Considering himself an historian first, and a genealogist second, Mr. Abney's interest in history is quite evident in his genealogical works. Founder of the Society of United Genealogists, International and the Centralized Abney Archives, the author also published magazines for those organizations The Historian and the Abney Family Researcher, respectively. The Abney Family Researcher newsletter was instrumental in keeping genealogists up-to-date on new discoveries, and publicly working on new theories. Mr. Abney published the newsletter from 1996 to 2003. The newsletter was a work-in-progress, advancing, proving and disproving theories and publishing new discoveries on the Abney family. The flood caused by Hurricane Katrina in August, 2005 destroyed decades of Mr. Abney's research, including vital documents, census records, deeds, bible records, wills and most importantly, pictures which are irreplaceable. The CAA was gone, washed away in the dirty, oily waters of Katrina. After a 12-year hiatus, Mr. Abney resumed his work on the family history. Fueled by the love, affection and encouragement of genealogists from the Silent Generation and the Greatest Generation, and inspired by genealogists of the 19th century and earlier, Mr. Abney continues publishing genealogy books in hopes of helping present and future generations."
