Overview

This Writer's Journal is a thoughtful, interactive notebook that gently guides you to reflect on and explore your writing style. Through a series of seeds - simple, practical prompts - you will find ways to develop your writing in sensual harmony with the seasons. The twelve detailed writing prompts and beautiful watercolour illustrations invite you to tune into your senses and develop your ideas and writing on the pages provided. Structured around the seasons, you can choose to work through the seeds in sequence or in any order. For each season there are three seeds to prompt you to write and flow into further writing projects. Within these beautiful, spacious pages there will be something to spark your creative flow and inspire you to continue to revisit the sanctity of the journal space. The delicate drawings of birds, fruits, flowers and landscapes, make this writer's journal a special notebook and perfect as a gift for any writer, whether beginning, emerging or experienced. No matter where you are on your writing journey, whether just beginning or much practised, you will discover inspiration and support in this Writer's Journal. It provides you with simple practical prompts to start your writing, especially at those times when you feel blocked or need some inspiration from a novel source - nature always provides whenever we take the time to observe and get into the flow. Each seed prompt is drawn from Linnet's experience as a facilitator and writing coach. She has used each of them many times with groups, and most recently at her monthly Writers' Cafe, held in her Writers' Retreat Garden in southwest Victoria, Australia. The local writers who gather together to harness the power of the group, relish the challenges she sets before them and often find words within themselves they had not guessed were there. The seed prompts work for individual exploration or could be used with a writing buddy or group for greater expansion of your writing practice. The soft watercolour studies of flowers, fruits and birds typical of Australian gardens, which adorn the notebook, make it a delight to hold, behold, write in and treasure. A handy pocketbook size, the Writer's Journal fits neatly in your handbag, backpack or a large coat pocket. Take it travelling with you and on your walks to make the most out of your solitary writing moments.

Reviews

Linnet's and Lynne's 'a writers journal.... seeds to sow inspiration' invites us to explore the writers within us. We are encouraged to feel the moment and allow our thoughts, feelings, experiences, and musings to unfold through our handwritten words, within the gently beautiful pages of the journal. Linnet's writers' group provided me with the opportunity to immerse myself in the moment with safety, openness, and space to explore my vulnerabilities, through handwritten words. Connectedness and sharing amongst the writers have evolved so naturally in the beautiful space Linnet created for us. The joy of freely exploring my feelings, thoughts, experiences through the written word without self-editing or judgement is soothing to my soul. Creating something of beauty or power or just to release feelings from my inner world keeps the writer in me nourished and alive. Linnet's prompts support me to explore unfamiliar writing styles with the varied inspirations she offers.

Author Information

Linnet Hunter is an indie-published performance poet and facilitator of writing in all its forms. She has a rare gift for creating spaces where writers of all backgrounds, levels of experience and writing styles can feel confident and encouraged. She is the designer and maker of the Writers' Retreat Garden at her home in a small town in southwest Victoria, Australia. Each month she runs a Writer's Cafe in her garden to nurture her participants' written expression and creativity in the peaceful surroundings under shady trees, abundant flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs. Lynne has been keeping a journal, writing, drawing and painting pretty much all her life. These pursuits have led her into the realms of editing, facilitating and collaborating in publishing projects while supporting adult learners in every facet of their education. The inspiration for her illustrations come from flowers from her garden or ones collected on walks, bird images and scenes from her imaginings. Just as with writing, she finds it a process of discovery through immersing herself in the flow of drawing and painting. She uses mainly watercolour and pencil and is experimenting all the time, trying to capture light, shadow and colour as well as feeling in her sketches.
