Author Information

Commander Sewards is a thirty-five-year veteran of law enforcement. He followed in the footsteps of his father, George Sewards, as did his brother, Vernon, and his cousin and brother-in-law, who all served in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. During his career, he drew duty in several bureaus of the Sheriff's Department and the Marshal's Office. He served as a staff instructor at the Rio Hondo Police Academy and was a guest instructor at the LAPD Academy, where he taught a course in civil law enforcement. While at the Marshal's Office, Commander Sewards developed and commanded the Judicial Protection Unit (JPU). This unit was responsible for evaluating threats and providing protection to bench officers. He also trained with the Secret Service presidential protective detail in Glynco, Georgia, during the development of the JPU.
