Author Information

The author lives and trains in California and has earned 5th Dan Black Belts in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do almost simultaneously and a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Soo Bahk. Len has been learning martial arts since he joined his first Tae Kwon Do class after graduating college. Len began teaching martial arts after earning a Cho Dan (1st degree) Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. Len augments his martial arts with meditation, strength-based weight training, boxing training including hand speed bag, heavy bag and long distance running. Meditation keep his body- mind in-tack, allowing him to train at higher levels of performance while minimizing injuries. Len has written and published many magazine articles, editorials (and books) related to martial arts for several martial arts magazines including the prestigious Dojang, Tae Kwon Do Times and Black Belt. Many of Len's articles illustrate the forgotten history and evolution of Korean martial arts. For this reason, Len's articles are often republished because of their excellent historical content, unavailable otherwise. Len's articles also appear on many martial arts web sites around the world. Len has also published more than 20 books on Korean martial arts. Len currently has more than 25 years of martial arts training and teaching experience. Academically, Len has earned 4 degrees in Physics and Mathematics, an M.A. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Education. Professionally, Len was responsible for getting the Pentagon to fund the U.S. Air Force's Global Positioning System (GPS). As an award winning spacecraft designer, he designed NASA's International Space Station, NASA's Space Shuttles and NASA's GOES-Next geostationary weather and space science satellites. The author has worked as an executive at several companies in the computer, telecommunications and aerospace and defense industries.
