Author Information

Mother of two energetic girls, Darlene Unruh has always loved to write. She started keeping a diary when she was twelve years old. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania with her four siblings, Darlene had a happy childhood. When she was twenty years old, she spent six months in Rochester, Minnesota, volunteering in the St. Mary's Hospital and Mayo Clinic. She also taught Bible school on the Shoal Lake and Red Earth Indian reservations in Saskatchewan, Canada. Darlene taught school for seven years: three years in her small hometown in Pennsylvania; two years for a missionary family in Chiapas, Mexico; and two years in Uvalde, Texas. While teaching in Uvalde, she met and married Tony Unruh. After seven years of living deep in the heart of Southwest Texas, they relocated to Pennsylvania, the town where Darlene had grown up. While watching her daughters grow up, she often shared experiences with them of her growing-up years. Wanting to preserve the legacy of her childhood, she started writing down some of her experiences, and eventually began publishing them as a series of children's books.
