Overview

*Ranching vs Open Grazing: Is Ayade More Catholic Than The Pope?* *_ If a man shall cause a field or a vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution. _* Exodus 22:5 (KJV) *_ If a man causes a field or a vineyard to be grazed, and lets loose his animals, and it feeds in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard. _* Exodus 22:5 (The Gideon International Bible). *_ The roaming about, for us, is un-Islamic and it is not the best. It is part of the problems we are having today. I don't support that we should continue with open grazing. _* -Governor Bello Aminu Masari of Katsina State. _* I do not accept the contention of the Defendants that a custom exists which imposes an obligation on the owner of a farm to fence his farm whilst the owner of cattle allows his cattle to wander like pests and cause damage. Such a custom if it exists, is unreasonable and I hold that it is repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience and therefore unenforceable ... in that it is highly unreasonable to impose the burden of fencing a farm, on the farmer without the corresponding obligation on the cattle owner to fence his cattle. Sequence to that, I ban open grazing for it is inimical to peace and tranquility and the cattle owners must fence or ranch their animal for peace to reign in these communities. *_ Hon. Justice Adewale Thompson, Abeokuta Judicial Division of the High Court of Ogun State in his judgment in Suit No. AB/26/66, delivered on the 17th day of April, 1969. _* As a full blooded Fulani Man, Sarkin Fulani, and Patron, Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and concerned Fulani leader in Nigeria, I have a free mind on anyone recommending a ban on open grazing, free movement of herders, and cattle in Nigeria because the practice is getting outdated internationally and is therefore, necessary for Nigeria especially Fulani race to study critically the traditional open grazing believing that the 21st century may never accommodate it. *_ Senator Walid Jibrin, National Patron of Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). *_Even colonialist governments arrested street or stray animals, quarantined them and imposed fines on the owners_ .* -Mba Ukweni SAN. But my Governor says: _* Fulani herdsmen have the right to move from one place to the other with their cattle. *_ -Governor Ben Ayade. The governor has even imported a special grass called King Grass from Cambodia that he is planting in the State to feed cattle all over Nigeria to solve the cattle-herders crisis. Just in case you did not know. Yours sincerely, Citizen Agba Jalingo.
