Overview

In a quaint, mid-western city, a local photographer decided to do what she could to help her hometown escape the clutches of devastating recession. Equipped with her camera, a note pad, and a mission, she set about on a three year journey to walk every street in Lansing, Michigan. Through her adventures she found a captivated audience who cheered her on, invited her in, and anticipated her story. Her journey began as an effort to help lead Lansing out of the Great Recession, but became a much bigger life lesson of community, volunteerism, and urban development.

Reviews

"With her A City Saunter Story memoir and the accompanying The City Saunter Project, a best-of recollection of her photojournalistic adventure of walking the entirety of the City of Lansing's streets, Ariniko O'Meara has created something really, really special. As I read Ariniko's memoir, two things happened: I experienced a wave of nostalgia as I relived parts of my youth that intersected her own story, and I experienced newfound hope for Lansing's future after having watched from afar the city suffer amidst a crushing economic decline. Together, Ariniko's two books recount in complementary ways an amazing, emotional, multiyear journey to better understand herself and Michigan's capital city--the people, places, activities, memories, and dreams that comprise what we both lovingly call ""home."" --Commander Mike Beidler, U.S. Navy (Retired)"
