Overview

2500 Common English Idioms: Probably the most difficult word groups to understand are those that are idiomatic. Idioms are confusing to the learner because the meaning of the individual words will often be familiar to them but the meaning of these words in combination is not as clear. There are an extensive number of idioms in the English language and it would be impractical for a non-native speaker to seriously consider learning them all. In this book you will find the more basic and common idioms used in general English (over 2500 examples given). Each entry has a brief description, an example showing how the idiom may be applied, and related expressions. Author Information

The author was an English Language professor in Korea for 14 years; his last position was with the English Linguistics Department of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He noticed that Korean students knew a healthy range of English single-word vocabulary but felt uncomfortable applying the language in a natural way. They knew textbook English conversations and colorful uncommon idiomatic phrases such as 'raining cats and dogs' but not the common idioms used by native-speakers of English in every-day conversation. To assist Korean students, he developed this guide offering simple, common idioms. For information about other books by the author please check his website: https: //jameslifebooks.weebly.com
