OverviewThe level of veteran suicided has increased since the start of the Global War on Terror, reaching epidemic levels, taking to the national spotlight on the floor of Congress. With the increasing divide between civilian and military/ veteran cultures; many mental health professionals lack an understanding to fully assist and help the heroes returning home. This book provides a twelve-step model that is easy to follow for all involved including the family, the mental health professional and the veteran. The steps are broken down into three parts; first, the veteran gains an understanding and acceptance of the past and mental health issues, and past events; while building trust in anew network of veterans. Second the Veteran and family realize their strengths, each individual's role in the system of family and community while gaining knowledge of local resources. Third the veteran and family engage in the community, seeking out other veterans that are in need. With these twelve-step systems, veterans would be encouraged to seek out and check on each other reducing the suicide rate among our nation's heroes.
