She lives with her husband and sled dog in Anchorage, Alaska. Scott Clendaniel is an Alaskan artist who married into a Russian family and has been learning Russian for over a decade, inspired by trips to Russia, visiting family members, and connecting with exchange students. As an artist, Scott mostly paints with oil paint, but also has a background in graphic design. Scott met Michele Whaley at a local Russian lesson after he returned from a trip to Lake Baikal. When Michele asked him to illustrate the ' ' book, he was excited to show the story with pictures to help new Russian readers develop their skills. Zangar Arsanovich Beisembinov is a fourth-generation Artist, and also the son of the couple on whom the two main characters of this book are based. Born in Moscow, Russia, Beisembinov attended art schools in Kazakhstan and went on to work as a designer and decorator in film, jewelry, garment production, and other fields. His paintings are in public and private collections all over the world and he has won many prizes, among which the UN certificate for significant contribution to the fine arts of Kazakhstan.
