Overview

Written with special features that both parents and teachers will like. This child-friendly innovative book helps children to feel comfortable with fractions and ratios explaining complex ideas in a simple easily understood way for the child, teacher and parent. The more complex understanding of a ratio as a derivative will come naturally as the child progresses through the series. This series of books will help the child to effortlessly develop the intuition needed to understand how ratios work within the different contexts of life. It challenges them to think deeper about the world around them and to understand not just how to solve a problem but how to see that there is a problem that needs to be solved. Each book has a section for them to match the question with the answer followed by an answer section that will reveal how well they were able to retain the answer and understand it. It also allows teachers and parents to move away from process math but instead encourage children to think and reason. The illustrations are imperfect which leaves the door open for bigger ideas in the future with the goal to expose them to the notation used in physics and calculus. The parent or teacher will feel comfortable and confident with the material since all the answers are provided. It is unrealistic to think that one book can provide the basis for a fine foundation in mathematics. Understanding math well is a process that at the beginning takes time and patience but can also be fun. Thus the child should thoroughly understand one part before proceeding to the next and should be able to easily switch roles from student to teacher using the questions and answers provided. At the beginning of each book there is an 'I love you space' that allows parents, grandparents, friends and family to write encouraging comments to give positive reenforcement early on to foster a love of mathematics. The ages for each part are as follows: Ages 0-3 OGI ORANGE THE BIG RACE PART I Ages 3-4 OGI ORANGE THE BIG RACE PART II Ages 4-6 OGI ORANGE THE BIG RACE PART III Ages 6-8 OGI ORANGE THE BIG RACE PART IV Ages 8-over OGI ORANGE THE BIG RACE PART I, II, III, IV Ogi Orange and Balii Banana are taken through some imaginative illustrations to understand some core mathematical principles such as: a relationship, a thing, properties vs types and is shown how these ideas can be disconnected and reapplied to other situations in life. It ends with a review in preparation for part III to finally solve the mystery of 'who is the fastest fruit in the valley?'.
