Overview

Acting like an Earthling isn't easy! Follow the adventures of Spork the alien in the How to Be an Earthling series. Each book covers a different character trait to help kids think about what they say and do. Everybody loves the class vegetable garden-except Jack.He doesn't want to pick beans. He doesn't even want to take care of the class hamster over the weekend, and Jo Jo is more fun than a green bean! That's when Jack has a great idea. He'll get Spork, the new alien in school, to watch Jo Jo. What could possibly go wrong? Every How to Be an Earthling title includes fun back-of-book activities that build on story themes. (Character trait- Responsibility)

"A moose, an alien named Spork, and a missing class pet are the ingredients in this fast-paced, early chapter book for young readers. Spork is an alien who landed on Earth and now attends school with other children in Mrs. Buckle's class. Jack finds himself in a bind after he promises to keep Jo-Jo, the class pet, for a weekend but is also invited on a camping trip. Jack asks Spork to take care of Jo-Jo instead, but the space alien doesn't completely understand his role as responsible caregiver. This book has short chapters and moves quickly through layers of action to keep reader interest high. Books in this series are formatted similarly with short chapters that feature the same set of characters. Both this book and the series would be good additions for collections that need additional early chapter books. Recommended.--School Library Connection -- ""Journal"" (8/1/2016 12:00:00 AM)"
